After months of different rumors, GMC has announced that it will be joining the battle of electric trucks with its GMC Hummer EV. It is described as an “all-electric super truck” and can revive the Hummer brand, which has been going down after sales slumped in 2010. The Hummer EV is set to be fully revealed on May 20 and will be built in the GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant in Michigan.
Many people have noticed that the Hummer, which is the brand that symbolized gas-guzzling excess, is now going electric. The truck was introduced during a Super Bowl commercial and has some impressive specs, including 11,500 lb. ft. torque, 1,000 horsepower, and 0-60 mph in three seconds making it one of the fastest vehicles on the road. In comparison, the new Corvette gets to 60 in 2.8 seconds while the Tesla CyberTruck has 800 horsepower and claims a time of 2.9 seconds
Leaving the mind-bending specs of the new Hummer aside, people consider it weird that GMC chose to reimagine that iconic vehicle as a green one. The H2 had a fuel economy of nearly 13 miles per gallon while a 2019 Prius can get over 50 miles per gallon.

That said, we should remember that people didn’t buy Hummers because they were economical or had much in the way of utility. As big as they were, Hummers would lack the cargo and interior space people would expect, and they weren’t very nimble on the road either. No, people would get a Hummer for style.
Although people buy trucks to use them for cargo, off-road travel, and other truck stuff, electric trucks have been presented to be style-centric, and the new Hummer is definitely not lacking in that regard.
