The World Car Awards is one of the biggest dates in the automotive calendar, as people flock to the event in order to see which car makers will take the top spots this year. The 2019 World Car Awards in New York has been and gone, but who were the big winners this year? Some may actually come as a surprise!
Battling It Out
After several rounds of judging, just three contenders were left to battle it out in the six categories at the 2019 World Car Awards. The categories are Design, Green, Luxury, Performance, Urban, and then the overall World Car of the Year. Both Audi and Jaguar had the most up for grabs, with there being two Audis alone in the World Luxury Car final. Would they be able to scoop up a trophy or two, however?
The Winners
So, onto the winners for each category. First up Design, which was picked up by Jaguar for their electric I-Pace car. The Green award finalists saw Audi, Hyundai, and Jaguar battling it out. But it was another win for the I-Pace by the British car firm. In the Luxury category, we saw two Audi cars take on a BMW, and it was the Audi A7 Sportback that took home the trophy. Battling it out for Performance was an Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT, but the McLaren 720S beat them both to the top. The 2019 World Urban Car award was won by Suzuki, much to the delight of the Japanese team who’d flown over especially for the ceremony.
World Car Of The Year 2019
So, who managed to bag themselves the much coveted trophy of World Car of the Year for 2019? Well, it was a bit of a shock for everyone involved as Jaguar scored themselves a hat-trick! The I-Pace scooped the top award, making it three massive wins for the car manufacturer. This just adds to an already bulging trophy cabinet for the car, which also performed well at the European Car of the Year Awards in March 2019. Bravo, Jaguar!
